Future architects

Here is what your child is learning when "playing" in the building centre:

Spatial awareness
Blocks, 3-d shapes, building materials

Strategic planning
Working as a team
Hand/eye and body coordination
Balance, patterns and symmetry
Math concepts: shape, size, number and weight
Opportunity to read and record information (labels, floor plans and instructions etc)
Creativity in designs
Simple machines (ex. ramps)
Positional word examples (beside, in front, on top)
Gross motor
Personal space!

Here are a few of the great structures our class has made in our building centre:

(Although there are no faces in the pictures, I do believe they will be able to recognize their work!)

Here is a zoo

Here is a great example of make a plan and then build:

Jacob and Isaac's plan

On the left they drew their plan step by step. On the right the teacher wrote what each picture was. Which they then wanted to copy and write themselves after the construction was over.

Here is the house they made!
