Pumpkins!!!
Back in October we had a pumpkin investigation. The children were interested in all the changes happening outside. They would bring in all the beautifully coloured leaves they found outside. Miss Desjardins (ECE student) brought in a few pumpkins and gourds and Mme Dolgos brought in a big pumpkin.
After we emptied and carved our pumpkin, we planted some seeds. We put some in soil, some in cotton, and some in sand.
Mrs McAteer asked the class what they thought would happen if instead of taking the seeds out of a small pumpkin, we would add soil to the seeds inside a pumpkin. Some thought the pumpkin seeds would grow and others didn't think it would work.
If you look in the picture above, you can see the seeds after the pumpkin had started to get soft and we transplanted the seeds into a clear container.
APPLES
We also made yummy apple sauce in the crock pot! We followed the steps from our recipe.
We had been very curious about worms and had some in a container in our classroom. So we wondered if worms liked to eat apples?
Turns out that they do not!
We also discovered these pretty star shapes in our apples when we cut them up to paint with them.
We decided to do an experiment to see which apple would not turn brown after being cut up. We put 1 in lemon juice, 1 we added salt, 1 in vinegar and 1 in water.
We discovered that the lemon juice was the best and the apple in salt stayed pretty much the same as well. The apple in vinegar turned really brown and the the apple in water browned a little.
